Introduction
Wyatt acknowledges the difficulties facing rural families who have student children leaving home to study at University in metropolitan Adelaide.
Wyatt aims to
1. encourage rural students to commence University study, by offering financial support in order to make study financially manageable
2. assist families who have very limited resources to support their children with the costs of city accommodation and the extra expenses of study.*
3. continue to support rural students during the course of their undergraduate study.
* It is assumed that students will defer payment of University tuition fees using the HECS-HELP loan.
The Wyatt University Scholarship
Approximately 20 new scholarships of $4,000 value are provided each year. The number of scholarships offered depends upon funds available and applicants are carefully selected according to specific financial criteria and priorities. Please note that income of the student’s family is always taken into account.
Students may continue to receive the scholarship for the duration of their undergraduate study program, provided that certain requirements are met.
Payments of $2,000 are made in February/March and August of each year and a review of students’ progress and continued eligibility is undertaken in December.

Application process
Application forms are available from this website (download below), or from the scholarships offices at the three Universities in Adelaide. They should be completed in full and returned to The Wyatt Benevolent Institution Incorporated 100 Pirie Street, Adelaide SA 5000 before 5th January, 2011.
It is anticipated that students may not have received an offer of a place at University until after the date of lodgement. The application form will ask for their nominated preferred course.
Applicants who are successful in the first round will be advised within 2 weeks and asked for family financial information. Wyatt will require proof of the taxable income for the 2009-2010 tax year of both parents and the student, and the student’s entitlement to Centrelink Youth Allowance. Wyatt will make a selection according to student merit and family financial need.
Information about applicants’ enrolment will be required before the scholarship is paid.
For students who are in receipt of a Wyatt University Scholarship for Country Students
You will receive the second payment in August 2010, if you are still enrolled and studying full time in Semester 2.
A full review of your scholarship will be undertaken in December 2010 and a decision made about the continuation of your scholarship for 2011. A form for this purpose will be sent to you in November. You will be required to show evidence of your family taxable income for the 2009-2010 tax year and your entitlement to Centrelink Youth Allowance.
As a rule, Wyatt does not extend the term of the scholarship to cover extra semesters of study required to undertake subjects which have been previously failed.
Students who defer study will be able to re apply for a scholarship when they resume study.
Student applicants who have been unsuccessful, may re apply for the scholarship in subsequent years.
